The Epistle to the Hebrews is well worth serious study as God’s word. It is rich in Christian theology. In it, we find support for the doctrine of the Trinity, the two natures of Christ, and the role of the Holy Spirit in the inspiration of the Scriptures. The doctrine of Jesus as prophet, priest, and king is also brought out. The role of Jesus as high priest is especially prominent. Hebrews also shows how the Old Testament finds its fulfilment in Christ. The superiority of Jesus over all creatures is also demonstrated. What is also worth studying is that Hebrews is not a theological tract meant to stimulate theologians. There is a very practical side to the book as well. The hearers of Hebrews were being challenged to abandon their faith in Jesus. Persecution was about to dramatically increase. They, and we, need to be exhorted to keep the faith that we might inherit the promise. Like Abraham who sought for a city that God built and not man, we must also pilgrim through the wilderness of life and fix our eyes upon the goal. Jesus is the one who leads us there. This is what we will be examining as we go through the Book of Hebrews.
